WASHINGTON, D.C.—The U.S. Chamber Institute for Legal Reform (ILR) today presented the 2009 Legislative Achievement Award to U.S. Senator Jeff Sessions for his tireless advocacy to improve our nation’s civil justice system.

“As a U.S. District Attorney and as the Attorney General of Alabama, Senator Sessions brings to the legal reform debate a tremendous wealth of invaluable first-hand experience,” said ILR President Lisa Rickard. “He’s not just one of those quiet, behind-the-scenes members of Congress.  Senator Sessions can always be counted on to take to the floor and aggressively push back against the onslaught of liability expanding measures that would stifle job creation during this time of economic recovery.”

Noting his prior support for pro-legal reform measures, including the landmark Class Action Fairness Act of 2005, Rickard praised Sessions for his continued commitment to the issue. “As the national health care debate continues to rage on Capitol Hill, we appreciate Senator Sessions for being on the front lines pressing for the adoption of meaningful medical liability reforms that would cut health care costs and improve the quality of patient care,” said Rickard.

Senator Sessions received the award today at ILR’s 10th Annual Legal Reform Summit, which brought together the nation’s leading legal reform experts to discuss the problems in the civil justice system and solutions to fix them.

ILR seeks to promote civil justice reform through legislative, political, judicial, and educational activities at the national, state, and local levels.
