WASHINGTON, D.C. — Lisa A. Rickard, president of the U.S. Chamber Institute for Legal Reform (ILR), made the following statement today about the U.S. House Judiciary Committee’s Subcommittee on the Constitution and Civil Justice holding a hearing on enforcement of the False Claims Act (FCA):
“The FCA is an important tool in need of updating. To be effective, the FCA should be improved to focus more on preventing fraud from happening in the first place, rather than solely relying on after-the-fact litigation.
“We commend the House Judiciary Committee’s reexamination of this issue and will work with Congress to achieve smart, commonsense reforms to promote compliance and enhance the FCA’s role in preventing fraud. Today’s hearing is an important step towards that goal.”
ILR seeks to promote civil justice reform through legislative, political, judicial, and educational activities at the national, state, and local levels.
