Lisa Rickard, president of the U.S. Chamber Institute for Legal Reform, issued the following statement in response to the lawsuit filed today against the dairy industry :
“This lawsuit is yet another attempt by a group with questionable motives using frivolous litigation to stir up publicity for a hidden agenda, rob individuals of personal choice and attack lawful American employers. Our country’s obesity problem has been caused by multiple factors, including an increase in caloric consumption combined with a decrease in physical activity. Rather than promoting healthy lifestyles or thinner waistlines, this junk lawsuit will only serve to feed our already-bloated tort liability system that eats up more than $240 billion a year.” For more information, please visit the U.S. Chamber Institute for Legal Reform study, “Burgers, Fries and Lawyers: The Beef Behind Obesity Lawsuits,” available online at: http://www.instituteforlegalreform.org/resources/burgers.pdf.
