WASHINGTON, D.C. – Lisa A. Rickard, president of the U.S. Chamber Institute for Legal Reform (ILR), made the following statement today about the U.S. House Judiciary Committee’s passage of the Stop Settlement Slush Funds Act of 2017:

“This bill would protect the power of the purse that the Constitution gives Congress by barring government agencies from using settlement slush funds to funnel money to third party groups.

“We applaud the House Judiciary Committee for passing this important legislation. We urge the full House and Senate to do the same without delay, and send it to the president’s desk”

ILR seeks to promote civil justice reform through legislative, political, judicial, and educational activities at the national, state, and local levels.
