Private securities class actions threaten the health of the U.S. economy and the global competitiveness of U.S. securities markets, and over the last few years, filings have rapidly accelerated. This is especially true with respect to “event-driven” filings and merger and acquisition objection lawsuits, which targeted 85 percent of merger deals worth $100 million or more in 2017.
On February 26, ILR will convene a panel of experts to discuss this trend, and propose solutions to confront the securities litigation contagion.
Expert panelists will:
- explore the increasing spread of securities class action filings, the types of cases being filed, and the drivers behind the trend;
- reveal and explain results of new public opinion polling on securities class actions;
- discuss the incentive structure for plaintiffs’ lawyers to bring cases; and
- recommend a series of potential solutions, including legislative and administrative fixes.
During the event, ILR will release two new research papers that will address these issues in further detail.
