Lisa A. Rickard, president of the U.S. Chamber Institute for Legal Reform (ILR),made the following statement on the release of the American Tort Reform Association’s (ATRA) Judicial Hellholes 2018/2019:

“We applaud the Judicial Hellholes report for shining a spotlight on some of the nation’s worst lawsuit jurisdictions. The U.S. tort system is not only inefficient, it is also expensive. This report will be a great resource in the fight to improve the legal
system.”

In October, ILR released Costs and Compensation of the U.S. Tort System, a report that shows the costs and compensation paid in the U.S. tort system totaled $429 billion in 2016—the highest ever recorded.

ILR seeks to promote civil justice reform through legislative, political, judicial, and educational activities at the global, national, state, and local levels.
