WASHINGTON, D.C.—Lisa A. Rickard, president of the U.S. Chamber Institute for Legal Reform (ILR), was named a 2015 “Legend in Law” winner at The Burton Awards, which honor the finest accomplishments in law. Rickard is receiving the award today in recognition of her exceptional career as an advocate for civil justice reform at a ceremony at the Library of Congress.

“Lisa’s tireless leadership to promote legal reform in the U.S. and across the globe has been invaluable to the business community,” said U.S. Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Thomas J. Donohue. “Lawsuit abuse kills jobs and drags down economies, and Lisa’s efforts have helped to stem the tide and improve the legal landscape in which businesses operate.”

The Burton Awards are held in association with the Library of Congress and co-sponsored by the American Bar Association. The program recognizes outstanding legal accomplishments including writing, reform, public service and interest, regulatory innovation, and lifetime achievements in the profession.

“Legend in Law” recipients are selected by several criteria: reputation in the legal community; reputation as an expert in the specific area of law practiced; complexity and scope of matters handled; the global or national importance of those matters; and leadership. Award recipients are chosen from nominations received from managing partners of the nation’s 1,000 largest law firms.

ILR seeks to promote civil justice reform through legislative, political, judicial, and educational activities at the global, national, state, and local levels.
