WASHINGTON, D.C.— Lisa A. Rickard, president of the U.S. Chamber Institute for Legal Reform, made the following statement about the Florida legislature approving the modernization of the state’s expert trial testimony standards on Friday.

“We applaud Florida’s legislature for making strides toward improving the state’s lawsuit climate, which ranked 41st nationally in a survey conducted last year.

“Florida’s legislature has taken an important step to strengthen and modernize the state’s outdated standards for admitting expert testimony at trial. By abandoning the 90-year-old Frye standard and adopting the Daubert standard, Florida will improve the reliability of expert testimony in its courtrooms and discourage the use of junk science.  We urge Governor Scott to swiftly sign this legislation into law and strongly encourage the legislature to enact other important reforms currently under consideration.”
