WASHINGTON, D.C. — Lisa A. Rickard, president of the U.S. Chamber Institute for Legal Reform (ILR), issued the following statement regarding today’s release of the report Judicial Hellholes 2014/2015 by the American Tort Reform Association (ATRA):

“We commend the Judicial Hellholes report for spotlighting some of the nation’s worst lawsuit jurisdictions. Awareness is the first step in improving the legal system, and this report underscores their continued need for legal reform.”

Last week, ILR unveiled a campaign to raise awareness of systemic lawsuit abuse in one of the nation’s most notorious jurisdictions cited in the report, Madison County, Ill. The campaign focuses on how out-of-state litigants and plaintiffs’ lawyers are flooding the county court’s asbestos docket, making it a nightmare for the county’s taxpayers and America’s businesses.

ILR seeks to promote civil justice reform through legislative, political, judicial, and educational activities at the national, state, and local levels.
