WSJ: New York Trial a “Parody”

The Wall Street Journal Editorial Board called the climate change-related securities lawsuit against Exxon in New York a “parody.”

The company was accused of deceiving investors in their disclosures about future climate change-related costs, which allegedly violates the state’s securities laws. However, the judge said the state attorneys engaged only in “agonizing repetitious questioning.” The state dropped two fraud charges yesterday and is looking to continue the case under a different state law with a lower level of proof. The Board called the lawsuit “political provenance.”
