Unpaid Interns Get “Next to Nothing” From Class Action Settlement
A group of former Ralph Lauren unpaid interns will get $305 each after the plaintiffs’ lawyers were awarded $108,000 in fees, the New York Post reports.
The plaintiffs’ original suit said the interns should have been paid at least minimum wage, which would have come out to between $114 and $210 per week. A spokesman with the Lawsuit Reform Alliance of New York said the case is an example of “how broken the class-action system is because you have people who actually were not paid money getting pennies on the dollar while lawyers are walking away with over $100,000.”
