U.S. Chamber’s Rickard Named to Honorary Board of Directors for The Burton Awards

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The U.S. Chamber Institute for Legal Reform (ILR) announced today that Lisa A. Rickard, president of ILR and executive vice president of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, will join the Honorary Board of Directors for The Burton Awards.

“The Burton Awards recognize the finest achievements in the practice of law, and are the benchmark for the highest standards in the profession,” said Rickard. “It is a privilege to join the Honorary Board’s work to recognize outstanding legal accomplishments.”

The Burton Awards are run in association with the Library of Congress and are co-sponsored by the American Bar Association. Rickard was a 2015 “Legend in Law” recipient, one of the program’s most prestigious awards. Recipients are selected based on their reputation in the legal community, expertise in specific practice areas, overall leadership, and several other criteria.

William C. Burton, founder and chair of the awards program, said, “As a ‘Legend in Law’ honoree, Lisa represents the essence of excellence in the field of law, and we are honored to have her now serve on the Honorary Board of Directors for The Burton Awards.”

The program recognizes outstanding legal writing, teaching, journalism, public service in government, public interest work, general counsel efforts, and achievements of lawyers in the military. Nearly 70 awards are presented annually.

Included among Honorary Board members are:

  • Michael Bennet, U.S. Senator
  • Robert P. Casey, Jr., U.S. Senator
  • John Cornyn, U.S. Senator
  • Carol Corrigan, California Supreme Court Justice 
  • Mike Crapo, U.S. Senator
  • Alex Kozinski, Chief Judge 9th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals
  • Les Parrette, Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Compliance Officer for Novelis Inc.
  • Richard Posner, 7th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals Judge
  • Thomas L. Sager, Partner, Ballard Spahr LLP, and former Senior Vice President and General Counsel of Dupont 

The 17th Anniversary Burton Awards will take place on May 23 at the Library of Congress.

ILR seeks to promote civil justice reform through legislative, political, judicial, and educational activities at the global, national, state, and local levels.

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is the world’s largest business federation representing the interests of more than 3 million businesses of all sizes, sectors, and regions, as well as state and local chambers and industry associations.
