WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, the U.S. Chamber Institute for Legal Reform (ILR) presented its 2018 Legal Reform Award to two distinguished individuals and one organization at its Summit XX: Law, Policy, Politics event. The award recognizes the notable achievements by those advocating for civil justice reform in three fields: alliances, state government, and research and policy.

“The Legal Reform Awards recognize the outstanding work that propels the civil justice reform movement,” said ILR President Lisa A. Rickard. “We’re honoring each winner for helping to promote a more balanced legal landscape.”

The three award winners include:

  • Georgians for Lawsuit Reform, which received the Outstanding Alliance Award in recognition of its quick rise on state reform initiatives, including its leadership in the push for a statewide business court.
  • Vermont Governor Phil Scott, who received the State Leadership Award in appreciation of his key role in improving the business climate of Vermont by vetoing liability-expanding bills during the 2018 legislative session.
  • Judy Pendell, who received the Research and Policy Award for her contributions to ILR’s research products and economic studies as one of ILR’s most long-standing partners.

ILR seeks to promote civil justice reform through legislative, political, judicial, and educational activities at the national, state, and local levels.

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is the world’s largest business federation representing the interests of more than 3 million businesses of all sizes, sectors, and regions, as well as state and local chambers and industry associations.
