U.S. Chamber: FL Supreme Court Medical Malpractice Ruling Will Make State’s Lawsuit Climate Even Worse

WASHINGTON, D.C.— Harold Kim, executive vice president of the U.S. Chamber Institute for Legal Reform (ILR) issued the following statement today on the Florida State Supreme Court’s decision in the case of Estate of Michelle Evette McCall v. United States of America concerning the constitutionality of Florida’s medical malpractice law:

“Today’s decision by the Florida State Supreme Court guts common-sense legal reform and serves to make Florida’s already poor lawsuit climate even worse.

“Florida has consistently been ranked near the bottom of the Harris ranking of the 50 state legal climates—ranking 41st in the most recent survey. Legal decisions such as these will only do more damage to Florida’s lawsuit reputation and harm its business climate.”

ILR seeks to promote civil justice reform through legislative, political, judicial, and educational activities at the national, state, and local levels.

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is the world’s largest business federation representing the interests of more than 3 million businesses of all sizes, sectors, and regions, as well as state and local chambers and industry associations.
