Trial Lawyers Fete Harry Reid for ‘Million Dollar’ Fundraiser in Canada

Politico reports that Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid flew “on the private plane of trial lawyer John Eddie Williams” to a “million dollar” fundraising event held in conjunction with the American Association for Justice’s annual meeting in Montreal.

“The DSCC event brought together 150 of the most prominent trial lawyers from across the country staying at the Westin Hotel Montreal for the industry association’s annual conference,” reports Politico. “American Association of Justice officers Lisa Blue, Larry Tawwater, Julie Kane, Kathleen Nastri, Elise Sanguinetti, Bruce Stern, Tobi Millrood and Linda Lipsen were all listed, along with a larger DSCC host committee list, on the ‘Hats off to Harry’ poster announcing the event.”

AAJ declined to “provide names of trial lawyer who attend the event and cut checks,” with Politico reporting that AAJ conference attendees were “required to sign a nondisclosure agreement.”

“Whether it be cases involving slip-and-fall. Whether it be cases involving very complicated products liability. Whether it be class actions. Whether it be securities cases. Sen. Reid has been our biggest champion,” AAJ President Linda Lipsen told the lawyers, according to Politico. “On asbestos. On asbestos we won by one vote. One vote. Why did we win by one vote? Because Sen. Reid asked Sen. [Daniel] Inouye to take a walk. One vote — Sen. Reid.”
