SC Columnist Notes ILR’s Lawsuit Climate Survey in Assessment of State’s Business Climate

Writing in the Aiken (SC) Standard, columnist Gary Bunker cites ILR’s 2015 Lawsuit Climate: Ranking the States survey saying that, “South Carolina’s liability system score, compiled by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Institute for Legal Reform, is a poor 36 out of 50.”

He notes that the challenging litigation climate may even offset other, more attractive, features of the state’s business climate.

“South Carolina’s economic forecast is decidedly mixed,” writes Bunker. “Its low corporate income tax and right-to-work status may make it attractive for business investments, but its low rankings on its tort system and workers’ compensation costs may be negatives.”
