Report: Securities Lawsuits Filed at “Record Pace” in 2017

In its most recent Trial Lawyers, Increport, the Manhattan Institute said Missouri’s legislators must “build on this positive momentum” stemming from a successful legal reform year to keep improving the state’s legal climate.

The report notes that “more than two dozen” legal reform bills were introduced last year, with several of them becoming law. Despite the legal reform advances, though, the report points to three more areas that are in need of reform: venue laws, deceptive trade practices laws, and asbestos claims transparency.

The Show Me State ranked 49th on ILR’s 2017 Lawsuit Climate Survey, which did not capture Missouri’s reform efforts last year. ILR President Lisa A. Rickard said the legislators “deserve credit for rolling up their sleeves and working hard to turn things around.”
