Ninth Circuit to Hear Uber’s Appeal Challenging Driver Class Action

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit has agreed to hear an appeal by Uber over whether the ride-share company’s drivers “signed away” their right to participate in a class action lawsuit against the company when they signed a binding arbitration clause with Uber.

A federal district court order has certified a class of almost 160,000 drivers in California in a lawsuit against Uber over their independent contractor status. If Uber’s appeal is successful, far fewer plaintiffs will be involved in the litigation against the company.
