Madison County, IL Court to Hear 300 Asbestos Cases on a Single Day Next Week
More than 300 asbestos cases are set for trial next Monday alone in Madison County, IL.
The majority of cases have been filed by out-of-county and out-of-state plaintiffs — a development which is line with the county’s reputation as America’s capital for asbestos litigation. Last year, ILR launched a public education campaign to highlight the fact that, of 3,000 cases filed in 2013 and 2014, more than 98% were from plaintiffs who don’t live in the county.
“In a review of 279 of the docket’s cases filed in 2013, 2014 and the one case in 2015, a total of 24 claimants are Illinois residents, or 8.5 percent in all; and, seven of the 279 plaintiffs are Madison County residents, or 2.5 percent of the total,” reports the Madison-St. Clair Record.
