Litigation Funding Bills Pop Up in State Legislatures

According to an analysis by Claims Journal, several state legislatures are considering bills to “impose more controls on litigation funding companies.”

The analysis says one of the factors fueling the legislation push is the increase in “nuclear verdicts” that are inflating insurance rates and claims costs across the country. The article points to Florida, New York, and Utah as new states considering litigation funding legislation this year.

The U.S. Chamber Institute for Legal Reform recently released new research outlining the litigation funding industry’s growth over the last decade.
