Litigation Abuse Remains A Problem in the U.S.

A decline in lawsuits over the past few years is due to a “host of factors” including state restrictions on litigation, improved auto safety, and public awareness regarding plaintiffs’ lawyer’s tactics, writes the Wall Street Journal.

While state measures have “weeded out some frivolous lawsuits,” litigation abuse remains a problem, said ILR President Lisa Rickard. “The American public whole heartedly agrees there are too many lawsuits in the country.”

The WSJ piece cites a Public Opinion Strategies’ election-night poll from last November that found 87% of voters agreed that there are “too many lawsuits filed in America,” supporting Rickard’s assertion.
