Legal Reform Opportunities Coming This Fall

Legal reform advocates in Florida, Georgia, and Missouri are “bullish” on their chances to achieve significant progress this fall and in 2020, reports Law360

Following up on a number of victories in 2019, civil justice organizations in these states expect to see positive change on issues like “phantom damages” in Florida, where juries are told only the billed price of medical expenses and not the amount actually paid (which is almost always lower); seat belt laws in Georgia, which prohibit juries from being told whether the occupant of a vehicle was wearing a seat belt at the time of an accident; and the reinstatement of a cap on punitive damages in Missouri.
