Law360 – “Calif. Bar Admits Errors In 40 Years Of Girardi Probes”
The State Bar of California “made mistakes” during multiple investigations into high-profile plaintiffs’ lawyer Thomas V. Girardi, according to a report in Law 360.
The admission, which resulted from an audit that the bar commissioned following Girardi’s fall from grace, highlights weaknesses in the bar’s ability to spot wrongdoing involving large and complex client trust accounts, the organization said Thursday.
A bar spokeswoman was unable to provide information Thursday on who conducted the audit, but said the findings have led them to consider hiring accounting experts and acquiring automated tools to identify suspicious transactions in “high-dollar, high-volume client trust accounts.”
The bar did not give specifics about the errors, who made them, or how many investigations they affected, citing strict privacy laws.
