The Supreme Court of Canada ruled that a group of Ecuadorian villagers can seek to enforce in Canada a multi-billion dollar Ecuadorian judgment against Chevron. The oil company claims that “fraud and bribery” were used to obtain the Ecuadorian ruling. The Canadian court’s ruling only establishes jurisdiction and does not settle the claim itself. (Sky News)

In an op-ed warning business owners about liability risks under the out-dated Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA), two Nixon Peabody attorneys write that, “The TCPA is a favorite of class action plaintiffs’ lawyers because the claims are relatively easy to establish and the potential rewards are lucrative.” (New Hampshire Business Review)
