Florida Insurance Officer Warns of Assignment of Benefits Scams: Florida Insurance Commissioner David Altmaier warned the state’s homeowners to “understand exactly what they are signing” when presented with documents that would turn their right to receive insurance benefits and sue their insurer over to home improvement contractors. Altmaier said assignment of benefits “abuse has contributed to rising insurance rates and in some cases, unscrupulous contractors have left homeowners with unfinished repairs, liens against their homes and uncovered repair expenses.” (Insurance Journal)
