The resignation of former New York Speaker Sheldon Silver after being indicted on “fraud and racketeering” charges related to an asbestos plaintiffs’ firm, along with the troubling findings in the Garlock bankruptcy case, could provide momentum for Congress to pass the Fairness in Asbestos Claims Trust (or, FACT) ACT this month. “West Virginia lawmakers made great strides earlier this year to tackle the problems of lawsuit abuse in our state,” writes the Parkersburg News & Sentinel, noting the state’s ranking of 50th in ILR’s 2015 Lawsuit Climate Survey. “Those in Charleston have almost as much work to do in getting the word out about the changes taking place as they do in actually making those changes.” (Parkersburg News & Sentinel)
