Rebuke Of Bentham Deal May Chill Canada Class Suit Funding: A Toronto judge, who is one of only two judges that oversee class actions in Canada’s financial center, said an “uncapped” funding agreement would allow Bentham “to control whether and how this litigation will proceed.” A senior litigator from Norton Rose Fulbright said the judge’s decision sends “a strong signal that uncapped fee arrangements aren’t likely to be approved and that these kind of arrangements need to preserve the autonomy for plaintiffs making strategic decisions.” (Law360)
NCAA Concussion Class Blasts $6M Fee Request: Student-athletes in multidistrict litigation against the NCAA “blasted” a $6 million fee request from the attorneys for the lead objector. The class said those attorneys’ perceived added value did not amount to the fee request. (Law360)
