Citing the U.S. Constitution’s due process clause and stating that punitive damages in the case “should be roughly 25 times the amount of compensatory damages and no more,” U.S. District Judge Rebecca Doherty “slashed” a $9 billion punitive damages award against Takeda Pharmaceutical Co. and Eli Lilly & Co. over the diabetes drug Actos to $36.8 million.” (Law360)

Pennsylvania Supreme Court Justice Seamus McCaffrey has retired from the bench one week after being suspended for allegations of having sent or received hundreds of emails with questionable adult content. (WSJ Law Blog)
