JPMorgan agreed to pay $5.1 billion to settle claims that it misled Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac about the quality of its mortgages. A much larger settlement is expected in the future as the company continues to negotiate with the Department of Justice. Wall Street Journal

After an appellate court found that some claimants to the gulf oil spill settlement fund were receiving compensation for losses that never occurred, BP is asking that the problems be corrected to ensure that only legitimate claims are paid. National Law Journal ($)
