Dr. Robert Taub, at the center of the corruption charges against former New York Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver, is set to testify in the case. Federal prosecutors say Taub will testify that he “disapproved” of Silver and his law firm, Weitz & Luxenberg, and that he referred cancer patients to Silver and the law firm “only as long as Silver was funneling him state money for research, new court papers claim.” (New York Post)

Geoffrey Graber, a former Justice Department lawyer “who oversaw the government’s investigation of the packaging and sale of mortgage-backed securities by banks in the years leading up to the 2008 financial crisis”, has become a partner at the plaintiffs’ firm Cohen Milstein Sellers & Toll. A Pulitzer Prize-winning New York Times report last year spotlighted the firm for its close ties with government officials, namely state attorneys general, and for landing contingency fee contracts from those officials to sue private businesses on behalf of state governments.
