  • Report Increases Estimate for Net Ultimate U.S. Asbestos Losses by Insurers: Property and casualty insurers in the U.S. “can expect losses from third-party liability asbestos claims to increase 18 percent to $100 billion,” according to a new report by A.M. Best. According to the report, the increase comes as insurers are “incurring approximately $2.1 billion in new losses each year while paying out nearly $2.5 billion on existing claims.   • Trump Selects Rep. Price to Head HHS: President-Elect Donald Trump has chosen Congressman Tom Price (R-GA), to head the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). Price, an orthopaedic surgeon, would be the first physician to head HHS since Louis Sullivan, MD, during the George H.W. Bush Administration. Price is an advocate for legal reform, including “tort reforms such as shielding physicians from liability if they adhered to clinical guidelines.” (Medscape)
