The first known federal lawsuit has been filed against Takata Corporation related to a defect in the company’s airbags. The wrongful death suit was filed a day after Takata senior vice president for global quality assurance, Hiroshi Shimizu, appeared before the U.S. Senate, where he was pressured to conduct an independent investigation into the defect. Three former college athletes have filed a class action lawsuit against the NCAA in U.S. District Court, claiming it and 11 athletic conferences have created “monopsony” power over college athletes. The suit alleges the conferences have unlawfully agreed that no college will pay an athlete any amount that exceeds the value of an athletic scholarship. (Legal Newsline)
