NHL Settles Concussion Lawsuit with Former Players for $19 Million: The National Hockey League has agreed to pay $19 million to settle lawsuits by former players who allege the League downplayed the risks of concussions and head injuries involved in the sport over several decades. Players will be eligible to receive between $22,000 and $75,000. $750,000 would go to a medical fund for treatments, $2.5 million would go to a “common good fund,” and almost $7 million would go towards attorneys’ fees and other legal costs. However, the League may pull back the deal if too many of the 318 players involved refuse to sign on and opt to pursue individual claims instead. (Law360)
