A new analysis of Justice Department records finds that “whistle-blowers helped authorities recover at least $9.3 billion from health care providers accused of defrauding states and the federal government.” ILR’s Matt Webb said the analysis indicates the current system is effective in generating recoveries for the government. “Some have said the law needs significant changes to make the cases actually stick,” said Webb. “If their definition of ‘not sticking’ is $9.3 billion, I’d hate to see what their definition of sticking is.” (The Legal Intelligencer)

ILR’s recent whitepaper, “Best Practices for State Administrators and the Use of Private Audit Firms” is cited in an article about the need for companies to, “reassess their unclaimed property internal audit policies to ensure that they maintain compliance or risk investigation costs, interest, and penalties when audited by the state or their designees.” (Lexology)
