  • Litigation Finance Companies Fund Shareholder Class Action Against Giant Class Action Firm: JustKapital Litigation Partners and Woodsford Litigation Funding have “joined forces” to fund a shareholder class action against publicly-traded Australian class action plaintiffs’ firm Slater and Gordon, after the firm posted a $958.3 loss for the last six months of 2015.   • Court Tosses Champerty Claim, Allows DuPont Lawsuit to Proceed Despite Presence of Litigation Financing: Allowing third-parties to hedge their bets on lawsuits turns our court system into a gambling hall, with funders benefitting from others’ misfortune.   • Minnesota Considers ADA Lawsuit Reform Bill: The Minnesota Chamber is backing legislation that would help curb Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) lawsuit abuse. The article details the exploits of plaintiffs’ attorney Paul Hansmeier, who has sued more than 100 Minnesota small businesses under the ADA. A report found Hansmeier “sought quick settlements from businesses for thousands of dollars and made little effort to ensure the buildings were brought into compliance.” (WDAY)
