A top Wall Street lawyer has slammed the current regulatory environment as “confrontational and skeptical,” saying that regulators have essentially overcompensated for an unfounded fear of being perceived as overly sympathetic toward the companies which they regulate. (Wall Street Journal)

Industry groups including the U.S. Chamber of Commerce contend that recent findings from the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) demonstrate regulatory overreach and justify the need for new legislation to restructure the agency. (Congressional Quarterly)

The U.S. Department of Justice is considering revoking years-old settlements with banks and prosecuting them based on findings of deferred prosecution investigations. The revocation of such a deal with a bank would be unprecedented. (Law360)
