- Volkswagen Reaches $10 Billion Settlement: Volkswagen AG is reportedly close to reaching a $10 billion civil settlement, which the Wall Street Journal calls the largest settlement in the auto industry’s history, over emissions-cheating allegations. The auto maker would reportedly “buy back cars and provide additional compensation for owners of almost 500,000 diesel-powered vehicles.” In addition the car company would pay more than $4 billion for “environmental impacts and to promote so-called zero-emission vehicles.” (Wall Street Journal)
- Stossel on Lawsuit Abuse and Wacky Warning Labels: Lamenting that lawsuit abuse results in the creation of “wacky” product warning labels, John Stossel writes, “lawyers and legislators’ insistence that most every action be bound by written rules makes many of us forget to use [our] own brains.” (Town Hall)
