Associate Attorney General Cites Importance of Corporate Compliance Culture

Speaking at the American Bar Association’s 12th National Institute on the Civil False Claims Act and Qui Tam enforcement, Acting Associate AG Jesse Panuccio reinforced the Department of Justice’s commitment to rewarding companies that invest in strong compliance measures. When companies do run into problems, Panuccio said the Department would give greatest consideration to companies that “do not just adopt compliance programs on paper, but incorporate them into the corporate culture.” (Department of Justice)

Australian Attorney General Backs Licensing as “Sensible Approach” to Regulation of Third Party Litigation Funding

Commenting on the discussion paper recently released by the Australian Law Reform Commission as part of their review of class actions and litigation funding, Australian AG Christian Porter endorsed licensing as a way to tackle the unintended consequences of the country’s “very light touch” regulatory environment around the funding industry. Porter stated his belief that third party funders should be treated like any other financial service providers, and as such should be subject to greater prudential supervision.
