A New York appeals court ruled that “a case involving indigenous Ecuadorians seeking a share of a $9.5 billion” judgment against Chevron belongs in Ecuador, not New York. A federal judge previously ruled that judgment was obtained by fraud, but that ruling is currently being appealed. (Law360)
A profile piece by ILR’s Faces of Lawsuit Abuse campaign was highlighted in the Palmetto Business Daily. It features a father who is being required by a public school to carry insurance on his son, a student athlete, because of the rising costs to schools from lawsuits. “[P]ublic schools” … “are not free anymore,” commented the family’s attorney.
