Defense Attorney Says SCOTUS Decision on Personal Jurisdiction in Class Actions is “Inevitable”: A defense attorney with Bradley Arant Boult Cummings LLP said although federal district courts are applying the U.S. Supreme Court’s Bristol-Myers Squibb decision on personal jurisdiction, the decision “left open whether personal jurisdiction pertains to class actions.” He said it is “inevitable” that the question will reach the Supreme Court. Illinois Appellate Judge Reverses Lower Court Decision on Personal Jurisdiction in Asbestos Case: Illinois’ Fifth District Appellate Court reversed a Madison County court decision that denied Ford Motor Company’s motion to dismiss an asbestos case for lack of personal jurisdiction. The appellate court said that Ford’s business in Illinois was not an “exceptional circumstance” that would meet the threshold for personal jurisdiction under Daimler. (Madison-St. Clair Record)
