It Can Be the Doctor”: The Wall Street Journal walked through how some doctors offer free treatment to plaintiffs in personal injury cases in exchange for a cut of the lawsuit’s settlement or judgment. In these schemes, lawyers refer their clients to these doctors, which the Journal calls “lien doctors,” and plaintiffs may still be on the hook for medical costs even if they don’t win their case.
