Securities Class Actions Up in 2015: The 186 federal court securities class actions filed in 2015 was the most recorded in a single year since 2011 and more than 9% above 2014’s total of 170. (Wall Street Journal)

Yahoo to Face TCPA Class Action: A federal judge in Chicago has ordered Yahoo, Inc. to face a class action accusing the company of sending unsolicited “welcome” text messages to Sprint Corporation cellphone users in alleged violation of the Telephone Consumer Protection Act. More than 500,000 cellphone users could be part of the class. (Reuters)

Report Shows ‘Patent Troll’ Litigation Up in 2015: A new report finds that patent litigation brought by “non-practicing entities” (also referred to as “patent trolls”) was up in 2015. Such entities filed 3,604 cases last year, a sharp increase over 2014, in which 2,891 were filed. (Wall Street Journal)
