Texas Legal Reform Group Says Governments Should Reward Compliance: In a letter to the editor of the Wall Street Journal, the senior chairman of Texans for Lawsuit Reform said a company’s adherence or exceedance of regulations “should not be weaponized by mass-tort lawyers” but rather protected by state governments, like in case of government-approved labels. Citing the U.S. Chamber Institute for Legal Reform’s finding that the costs and compensation associated with the tort system cost $429 billion in 2016, he said states and the federal government would “do well to follow” Texas’ lead in protecting companies from liablity if they secured a government approved label.
