  • Class Action Giant Faces Almost $1 Billion Loss: Australian class action plaintiffs’ firm Slater & Gordon, “one of the world’s first publicly listed law firms”, could face class actions from its own shareholders as the company reported a $958 billion loss for the six months through December. The firm has been “engulfed by a series of controversies over the past year related to its accounting policies, the accuracy of its financial forecasts, and UK government plans to limit the number of personal injury claims.” (Financial Times)
     
  • Potential Worry Over Current Class Action Cases Before SCOTUS: Dow’s decision to settle a class action rather than “risk an appeal” to a Scalia-less Supreme Court could show a “signal of worry” to U.S. businesses, especially with several class action-related cases pending before the Court.
