NC Lawsuit Seeks to Overturn State’s New Judicial ‘Retention Election’ System: A lawsuit filed in Wake County, NC, seeks to block a law enacted earlier this year that gives “most sitting judges the option to be re-elected to additional eight-year terms without head-to-head matchups with challengers.” The lawsuit claims these retention elections are actually referenda that violate the state’s constitution.
