Another Veterans Group Calls for Passage of FACT Act: “On behalf of the veterans whom we represent, we write to express strong support for HR 526, the Furthering Asbestos Claims Transparency (FACT) Act, which would require the various asbestos trusts in the nation to file quarterly reports with bankruptcy courts detailing who has filed a claim and how much money was paid,” Diane Martinez, vice president of operations for Save Our Veterans, recently wrote in a letter to U.S. Reps. John Conyers (D-MI) and Bob Goodlatte (R-VA). (American Security News)

New VW Claims Chief’s Prompt Settlement Goal ‘Runs Into Lawyers’: Kenneth Feinberg, the special master hired by Volkswagen AG to help to set up a compensation system for consumers impacted by the emissions scandal, is facing the challenge of plaintiffs’ attorneys who don’t want to give up their clients’ right to file lawsuits. The car company is facing more than 500 lawsuits, including proposed class actions, over the issue. Under the proposed compensation system, “owners who accept offers would be blocked from suing.” (Bloomberg Business)
