  • 25,060 Lawyers Cost Taxpayers $26.2 Billion since 2007: This week OpenTheBooks.com released the Snapshot Oversight Report – Lawyered Up, Federal Spending on General Attorneys from FY2007-FY2014. The report found that the number of federal lawyers in the U.S. now exceeds the total public payroll headcount of twelve states – combined. (Forbes)
  • Putting an End to Federal Settlement ‘Slush Funds’: Chairman Bob Goodlatte’s recently introduced bill, “Stop Settlement Slush Funds Act of 2016”, received a hearing yesterday in the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Regulatory Reform, Commercial and Antitrust Law. During the hearing, former U.S. Congressman and California Attorney General Dan Lungren testified in favor of the bill stating “we must recognize that prosecution motivated by self-interest, rather than the public interest, imposes real-world costs.” (ILR Blog)
