Sen. Lindsey Graham Heads to Trial Lawyer’s Fundraiser: Texas plaintiffs’ attorney Mark Lanier is co-hosting a fundraiser for Sen. Graham this week, “spreading talk among conservatives that Graham has allied himself with plaintiff attorneys who have a huge financial incentive to block bills that sailed through the House of Representatives earlier this year.” Graham sits on the Senate Judiciary Committee and, if he defects – or even acts as though he may defect – on legal reform legislation, the committee would be stuck in a tie and the bills could die in committee before making it to the full Senate. Junk Faxes Lead to $1.5 Million TCPA Class Action Settlement: A Miami federal judge gave final approval to a $1.55 million nationwide class action settlement for schools that complained about receiving reams of unsolicited advertisement faxes. The allegations came under the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA); lawsuits under the TCPA have increased dramatically in recent years, with 44 TCPA lawsuits filed in 2009 and 4,860 filed last year.
