- Woman Walks into Ladder While “Engrossed” in her Cellphone; Jury Awards Her $161,000: They say that walking under a ladder will bring a person bad luck. Apparently, walking into that same ladder while texting will bring you a pot of gold … or, $161,000, to be exact. That’s what happened for plaintiff DeToya Moody when a jury found her 8 percent liable for injuring herself by walking into a ladder while she was “engrossed” in her cellphone. (ILR Blog)
- Australian Class Action Firm Comes Under Fire from Australian Federal Court: The Australian Federal Court fires back at class action plaintiffs’ firm Maurice Blackburn, which had sought “to invoke the powers of a foreign court (in New York District Court) to obtain compulsory oral discovery outside the [Federal Court] docket judge’s case-management control of this class action and without his knowledge or approval”. The court ordered the firm’s client to be “restrained taking further steps in a New York District Court.” (Australasian Lawyer)
