After an Oregon state court granted jurisdiction over a U.S. company and its foreign parent, Danish company Novo Nordisk is asking the Supreme Court to clarify whether a foreign company can be held liable for products handled by the American subsidiary.  Corporate Counsel

Citing the Supreme Court’s recent decision in Kiobel vs. Royal Dutch Petroleum, Chiquita is asking a federal judge to dismiss litigation filed by thousands of Colombians who claim the company made payments to a paramilitary group during the country’s decades-long civil war.  Chiquita says it was threatened and blackmailed into making the payments to the right wing United Self-Defense Forces of Colombia.  Associated Press
